Landscape Arch with the Milkway
On a road trip around the Colorado Plateau, we spent many hours in Arches National Park - a real treasure. We were unable to get to Landscape Arch during daylight hours, so I thought I would try my luck at night. After a 3km midnight solo hike, thinking of the occasional black bear that had been seen, and not really 100% sure of where I was going, I found a great vantage point about 200 m away from the arch. For a sense of scale, this is as long as three football fields. A 30 second exposure, a bit of light painting with my LED headlamp, and several deep breaths of the cool desert air later, I felt at peace with the universe.
